After show report written for the NODA Scotland magazine Keith Ewen as Ramon/Zorro and Maureen Halkett as his fiancé Raquelita were in excellent voice - particularly in their duet "Love Stay in My Heart". Helen McKellar too was in fine voice as the Senator's daughter Lucille. Fraser MacGillivray as Police Sergeant Bernardo gave a strong performance and a spirited rendition of "The Sergeant's Song" complete with onstage marching band. Sara Chiappa as matriarch Mama Inez too gave a strong performance. Comedy plays a major part in this show and was in the expert hands of Christopher Hewett and Ken Smith as Ramon's hapless handymen; John Marshall as the pompous American Senator and John Carson as the malapropistic revolutionary Mendoza. The sinister Chief of Police, Lopez was well played by Ian Duncan. With excellent chorus singing and dancing, bright costumes and set this show certainly succeeded in bringing some Mexican warmth to a cold North East night. |
